Pottsboro Cardinals 1987

1987(11-2) Ronny Ray 11-2A champs
Pottsboro reached a #10 State ranking until they were upset on the road at Henrietta, a 27 yard td pass from qb Mark Guilloud to Charles Baker with 23 seconds left gave the Cardinals a chance in that game, but the try for 2 points failed.  The Cardinals defense was outstanding in 1987, allowing 20 points or more only 3 times in 13 games.  The Cards beat Electra in the Area round, the Tigers were the defending 2A state champs.  in the Region game vs. Lorena Pottsboro fell way behind and rallied to make a game of it vs. the Leopards who went on to claim the 1987 2A State Championship.

What a great team that season. I don’t think we could have put together a better team than what we had that season.
