30 Aug Cardinals open the 2014 Season, whip Aubrey 34-3
Expectations are high in Cardinal land, 15 returning starters, picked to win tough district 5-3A D1 and on Friday night the Cards didn’t disappoint. Pottsboro dominated 4A Aubrey on the way to a 34-3 victory, now 1-0. If you didn’t know or needed confirmation, the Cardinals are good! Pottsboro torched the Chaparrals defense with long passes, completing a 61 yard bomb from Hunter Mullinex to Zack Lovelady that set up a short td run in the 1st quarter. Zane Pritchett hit Nate Watson down the sideline for another score and finally it was Mullinex to sophomore Myles Mitchusson for 59 yards in the 4th. The Pottsboro defense didn’t really let Aubrey’s offense do much plus forced 2 tournovers, the only points came on a 27 yard field goal late in the 4th quarter. Overall it was an impressive performance for the Cardinals, Hunter Mullinex was 10-17 for 196 yards through the air. Zane Pritchett showed off his running ability with a 56 yard scamper for pay dirt and Thaddeus Flinn added 93 yarads and a td. A complete victory in the season opener and now the Cardinals prepare for the Gunter Tigers who handed Pottsboro their only regular season loss a year ago. With the home victory the Cards have now won 14 straight at Jim Henderson Memorial Field, one short of the school record of 15 set between 1980-83.
