08 Sep Cardinals Suffer First Loss
It had to happen eventually…..you can’t win ’em all…..You’ve heard all the cliches before but the Cardinals suffered their first home loss since 2010 when they lost 28-26 to the Gunter Tigers on Friday night. You can analyze what led to the loss but in the end it doesn’t matter, the 14 game winning streak is over, just tip your hat to Gunter’s coaches and players and move on. The results of games this early in the season don’t matter that much in the big scheme of things and hopefully the Cardinals will learn something from the game. Lesson #1, when playing a good team mistakes KILL, the Cardinals made way too many, interceptions, high snap from punt formation, enough to lose. The funny thing is, the game came down to missed extra points, the Cardinals missed their first extra point kick and were behind the rest of the game. Pottsboro fought hard, drawing within 2 points in the fourth quarter, but in the end another turnover stopped their last second attempt at victory. QB Hunter Mullenix’s arm was hit as he attempted a down field pass with under 2 minutes remaining, Garrett Hunter easily picked it off to basically end the game. Posttboro falls to 1-1 on the season and will host Boyd for homecoming this Friday. The Gunter Tigers improve to 2-0, they have a chance to have an outstanding season with all the seniors and should go a long way in the post season.
