13 Sep Cardinals back on winning track, beat Boyd 17-7
Defense…………Defense…………Defense…………..you hear this chant at almost every football game you attend, Friday night in Pottsboro you saw it in action. The Cardinals defense limited the Boyd Yellowjackets to 166 total yards and one score to get back in the win column, final 17-7. The Pottsboro defense was ready from the outset when they stopped Junior RB Qualynn Wells for a loss on his first 2 carries and limited him to 32 yards on 18 carries. That’s Defense, Wells had 442 yards rushing in a 4 overtime game last week. The Cardinal defense was everywhere, never giving Wells or the Yellowjacket offense an opening. Boyd managed a 4th quarter touchdown and that was it, Patton Lyons and Questin Stumpff led the defensive charge. On a blustery night the Pottsboro offense was functional as Senior quarterback Hunter Mullinex had 209 yards rushing which tied for the 14th most in school history, Mullinex also scored both touchdowns on runs of 20 & 38 yards. The Cardinals totaled 385 yards, 312 on the ground and were up 17-0 entering the 4th quarter before coasting to their 2nd victory. Now 2-1 as they head to Bowie for another non-district encounter this coming Friday, kickoff at 7:30. It’ll be the first road game of the season for the Cardinals, so fans keep your vocal chords loose and get ready to chant……….Defense………..Defense.
