21 Sep Cardinals find their offense, run away from Bowie 52-19
The Pottsboro Cardinals left their nest and traveled to Bowie for their first road game of the year. Pottsboro trailed early but finally got their offense in gear and defeated the Jackrabbits 52-19. With the win Pottsboro improves to 3-1 on the season and travel to Howe for the final non-district game this Friday night.
Bowie opened the game with an impressive drive that covered 67 yards in 11 plays, scoring on a 13 yard td pass from Lawson Mickler to Jeffery Howard, with 7:25 to go in the opening quarter it was 6-0, the Jackrabbits missed the extra point. The Cardinals got a big play from Myles Mithusson, he hauled in a 41 yard bomb that set up a 36 yard field goal by Abdul Mall. This was the first of several huge play by the Sophomore Mitchusson, he ended up with 5 catches for 219 yards the fourth most receiving yardage in a game in Cardinal history. Zane Pritchett intercepted a Bowie pass and returned it to the 7, Thaddeus Flinn plowed into the end zone and the Cardinals had the lead 10-6 with 2:37 remaining in quarter number one.
Next came a flurry of offense and defense from the Cardinals that led to a 52-13 lead in the 3rd quarter and the Cardinals had their 3rd win of 2014. Along the way Pritchett threw for 235 yards and 2 touchdowns, he ran for 91 and 2 more touchdowns. Hunter Mullenix the Cardinals starter was forced out of the game with a back injury in the first quarter so it was all Pritchett the rest of the way for Pottsboro. For the game Mitchusson had 5 receptions 219 yards and 2 touchdowns. Once again it was LB Patton Lyons leading the charge for the Cardinal defense.
With the victory coach Matt Poe picked up his 73rd victory at Pottsboro tying him with Ronnie Ray who coached the Cardinals from 1978-87 and totaled 73 wins. The Cardinals go for the record this week at Howe.
