Cardinals Cruise in Bi-District, Rematch with Redwater

Pottsboro’s offense is designed to take what the defense gives them.  Pottsboro’s defense is designed to Shut You Down.  Both were on display in a Bi-District game in Bonham as the Cardinals defeated Caddo Mills 44-13.  Pottsboro will play Friday in Emory at Rains High School in the Area round of playoffs versus Redwater.

This game was over in a hurry, the Cardinals offense scored touchdowns on their first 3 possessions and the “Dirty Bird” defense didn’t allow a 1st down until it was 21-0.  There’s your game, Pottsboro dominated Caddo Mills from district 3A-6 and coasted in the 2nd half to the win.  It was 31-7 at half and 44-7 at the end of 3.

Zane Pritchett completed 11 passes in 14 pass attempts for 306 yards and 2 td’s.  Pottsboro improves to 10-1 on the season while Caddo Mills finishes at 6-5.  The win by Pottsboro seemed easy but once again it was great execution by the Cardinals, on defense Pottsboro kept the Foxes big play offense in check, Cardinals safety Zane Martinez was everywhere, tackling receivers for 7 yard loses and defending deep throws in the end zone.  Along with his defensive mates they pretty much shut down Caddo Mills offense.  The Foxes got td’s with less than :30 left in each half and that was it.

Redwater was the 3rd place finisher in District 3A-7 and is 6-5 overall but pulled off an improbable upset over White Oak to advance to the area round.

One highlight from the game came in the 3rd quarter when QB Zane Pritchett lofted a perfectly thrown bomb down the middle of the field that Nate Watson caught in stride at midfield and outraced the defense to the end zone for a 87 yard TD pass, equaling the longest pass in school history.  The Cardinals goal this year is to “Play in December”, it felt like December Friday night with temperatures hovering around freezing and if the Cards continue to play like this they just might end up making it to December for the 3rd time in school history.
