Pottsboro’s Offense Unstoppable, Cards Advance 38-21 over Redwater

The Pottsboro Cardinals had 6 “real” possessions Friday Night, they scored 6 times, that’s batting 1000%, not bad.  Pottsboro won the Regional playoff match up with the Redwater Dragons 38-21 in Emory, Tx.  Redwater’s grind it out flexbone offense proved to be challenging for the Cardinals defense as they ran for 296 yards but Redwater had no answer for the Cardinals offense.

Redwater won the toss and deferred, mistake!   Pottsboro loves opening on offense and they quickly drove 69 yards in 12 plays and got on the board with a Thaddeus Flinn 1 yard plunge.  Redwater answered by going 70 yards in 10 plays, 7-7 at the end of one peroid.  In the 2nd quarter the Cardinals took advantage of a 20 mph south wind and started drives at their 44, 50 and 45 yard line scoring all 3 times to carve out a 24-14 lead at intermission.  Zane Pritchett had 110 yards rushing in the first half and 2 td’s.

The Cardinals defense came up with a rare stop on the Dragon’s first possession of the 2nd half and the Cardinals went into “Beast Mode” scoring on Pritchett’s 30 yard td run his 21st rushing touchdown of the season, that made it 31-14 going to the 4th.

Pottsboro and Redwater traded touchdowns in the 4th and the final was 38-21.  The Dragons felxbone power offense gave Pottsboro trouble all night as they ground out first down after first down but in the end Redwater had no answer for the Cards offense.  A perfect example of the Dragon offense was a 19 play 75 yard drive that covered the end of the 3rd quarter into the 4th quarter, it took 9 minutes and 15 seconds.  After Redwater scored to get within 31-21 there was only 6:15 left in the game.  Pottsboro calmly moved out to their 35 yard line and faced 4th and 6.  That’s when the Cardinals coaches made a brilliant call, one Patton Lyons 25 yard run on a fake punt later the Cardinals were in business and added the final points to salt away the victory.

Pottsboro won their 10th game in a row, now 11-1 advance to the Regional round of 3A-D1 playoffs and face surprising Whitesboro a 35-7 winner over Winnsboro.  The game will be Friday Nov 28th at Munson Stadium in Denison, Pottsboro defeated the Bearcats 45-35 in Whitesboro on Nov 7th.  Whitesboro enteres the game with a 4-8 record but has been playing as good as anyone over the last 2 weeks.
