Cardinals Zane-tastic in win over Bowie

Pottsboro has been sailing through the early going in 2015, now they have a few obstacles to overcome.  Injuries can do that, gone is defensive leader LB Patton Lyons with a foot injury.  Gone is his compadre LB Questin Stumpff, the teams 2nd leader tackler, with a knee.  But here’s a secret about the 2015 Pottsboro Cardinals, they have depth.  Carson Rein & Trevor Travis stepped in nicely and the Cards never missed a beat on the way to a 45-8 win.  DSC_1447

It’s 4-0 for the Cardinals as their ranking seems to be rising as fast as the Cardinals are putting points on the board, #3 this week in Dave Campbell’s & #1 in the Maxpreps computer poll.  On Friday night, as it’s been this entire season, the Jackrabbits had no chance of stopping Sr QB Zane Pritchett, he accounted for 3 rushing td’s in the 1st quarter and the Cardinals coasted to a 45-8 victory.

DSC_0781Pottsboro was playing their first home game of the season and it showed, great crowd and the Cardinals wasted little time scoring on the first 3 possessions in route to a 35-8 halftime lead.  And just like every game this year Pritchett watched the 2nd half from the sidelines, ohh yea he did trot out to punt once.  Pottsboro kept it simple and amassed 327 yards on the ground led by Pritchett with 146 on only 10 carries.  And of course the defense did it’s part allowing the only points on an 84 yard drive in 15 plays late in the first quarter.  Pottsboro has now outscored their opponents 133-8 in the first half.

The early word is both Lyons and Stumpff will be out until district if recovery goes as expected. The Cardinals are now 4-0 and host Howe on Friday night for homecoming.  This will be the first real test of the year as the Bulldogs come in at 4-0, so you could call it a battle of the unbeatens.  Pregame at 7 pm for the radio broadcast on Mix 96.1.
