District Preview

The Pottsboro Cardinals open up district play this Friday Oct 9th when they host the Farmersville Farmers.  Here’s a quick preview of district 3A1-5 for 2015.  Team Records

Pottsboro             5-0*(2-3 with forfeits)
Pilot Point            5-0
Callisburg             5-0
Van Alstyne          4-1
Farmersville         4-1
Whitesboro           1-4

Pottsboro:  the Cardinals have dominated all 5 opponents avg. 47 points and allowing only 5.8 per game.  The don’t really have a weakness and look to continue their 23 game winning streak in district play which dates back to 2010.

Pilot Point:  The Bearcats have had a couple of close contests, coming from behind to defeat Aubrey 44-27 in week 3 and a 21-16 victory at Gunter in week 4.  Pilot Point is integrating a new QB, Quincy Kemp,  but the Bearcats are still explosive on offense putting up 63 vs. Bonham.  Dacoven Bailey is averaging 16.8 per rushing attempt plus can catch the ball from several different positions on the field.

Callisburg:  The Wildcats may be the surprise of the non-district schedule winning games @ Muenster 15-10 and at home over Anna 42-27. Chase Caldwell a 5’9″ Jr. is the leading rusher with 579 yards and 10 td’s.

Van Alstyne:  The Panthers were rolling along at 3-0 before being surprised by Aubrey at home, losing 28-24.  VA is still a threat to put up big numbers on offense.  Levi Jones a 5’7″ Jr. is averaging 9.4 yards a carry and has 678 yards on the ground and 6 td’s.  QB Jon Burge has thrown for 430 yards and 6 td’s.

Farmersville:  The Farmers have some exciting players on offense.  Caleb Twyford who is 6’1″ 175 Jr.  leads the district in rushing at the mid-point with 754 yards and 16 td’s.  Twyford has been playing QB the last couple of games due to the injury to starter Chase Hacker.  It’s hard to believe but Twyford is 2nd in the district with 19 catches for 210 yards.

Whitesboro:  The Bearcats always play a tough non-district schedule under coach Gill, this year is no exception.  Whitesboro has lost to North Lamar, Gunter and Sanger.  Last year the got hot at the end of the year advancing to the 3rd round and 2015 could be the same kind of season for Whitesboro.
