Cardinals Roll over Aubrey 49-20

No doubt, Pottsboro is one of the best teams in class 3A.  After knocking off their 4th 4A squad Friday night, you might argue they could be a contender in 4A as well.   Pottsboro pretty much dominated Aubrey with their unstoppable offense and bend-but-don’t-break defense for a 49-20 non-district victory.

In 2 games Hunter Watson has shown that teams can’t tackle him, until he left the game in the 3rd after a 31 yard run, he had rushed 6 times for 86 yards and a td.  The ankle injury to Watson is not expected to be serious so he should be ready to go in 2 weeks when district play starts at Howe on Oct. 7th.  The Cardinals offense has a lot of weapons, Ryan Roberts had 2 td’s on the ground and Myles Mitchusson caught a 37 yard pass from Watson.  Pottsboro has scored 40 or more in 4 of their 5 games and is averaging more than 400 yards per game, basically unstoppable.  Pottsboro

The defense gave up some yards once again but keep Aubrey out of the endzone most of the game, the Chaps added two late 4th quarter td’s for the final score.

Pottsboro led 21-7 at halftime, Watson ran one in from 3 yards out on the Cardinals 1st possession, then Watson hit Myles for a 37 yard td in a short yardage situation, the play fake fooled everyone, including the defense as Mitchusson was wide open at the 5 yard line and walked into the endzone.  Ryan Roberts added a 17 yard td dash with only 25 seconds left in the 1st half.

In the 3rd quarter Pottsboro pulled away thanks to their defense, after the offense drove 76 yards for a Roberts td run on their 1st possession.  Myles Mitchusson picked off a pass and ran it back to the 18 that set up a td.  Mitch then forced a fumbled, picked it up and ran 55 yards for another score.  That made it 42-7 going into the 4th, game over.

DSC_0976Pottsboro wraps up non-district play at 4-1, they have a week off and open up district play on the road at Howe Oct. 7th.
