It’s rapidly becoming a rivalry.  Close, hard fought games can do that, the last couple of years Pottsboro and Pilot Point have had some classic confrontations, this year not so much.  Pottsboro controlled play  and won a hard fought victory 45-14 to improve to 3-0 in district play.

The Cardinals scored touchdowns on their first 2 possessions to jump out to a 14-0 lead.  Hunter Watson hit Matthew Poe from 40 out and then ran one in from the 3.  The Bearcats showed some fight as they scored at the end of the first quarter and just before halftime to make it a 28-14 score at intermission.

In the 2nd half the Cardinal defense dominated and Pottsboro cruised to the victory, both teams suffered injuries.  For the Cardinals they lost QB Hunter Watson early in the 2nd to an ankle injury plus OL Hunter Flanagan (knee).  For Pilot Point their, do-everything quarterback, Quincy Kemp went out in the 3rd quarter on a big hit during a punt return.  It was a scary moment as Kemp collapsed on the sideline and had to be taken off on a stretcher but the good news is, according to Pilot Point,  that he would be okay.

Pottsboro got solid contribution from several sources, the defense for the 3rd straight game was outstanding, holding the Bearcats to only 38 yards rushing.  Carson Rein carried the ball 15 times for 85 yards and 2 td’s.  Myles Mitchusson returned a punt 66 yards to set up a short touchdown drive.  The key to the season so far has been solid contributions across the board for the Cardinals.
