24 Sep Pottsboro Defeats North Lamar 14-11
“We Will Win” means sometimes you have to find a way to win even when you aren’t playing your best. That’s exactly what happened on Friday in Paris. The Cardinals struggled getting their offense going, they turned the ball over at the wrong times but somehow they still managed to find a way to win.
Pottsboro trailed 3-0 at halftime and only had 3 first downs and 45 yards of offense. In the third quarter North Lamar made a critical mistake, they snapped the ball over punter Travis Coston’s head and he was tackled at the 21. Three plays later Hunter Watson back-pedaled his way into to the end zone to give the Cardinals their first lead of the game.
In the 4th quarter freshman Braden Plyler broke lose for a 32 yard TD run to make the score 14-3 with only 4 minutes remaining. Pottsboro was able to stop the Panthers on 4th down near midfield to wrap up the victory. Credit the defense for coming up with big stops when they were needed, credit the offense for being opportunistic, credit the coaching staff for getting the players ready. It was definitely a team victory and one the Cardinals might not have deserved to win but that’s what good teams do “Win”.
The Cardinals are now 3-1 and will host the Aubrey Chaparrals in the battle of the birds Friday night. It’s homecoming at Pottsboro, pregame at 7 pm kickoff at 7:30 on Mix 96.1.
