Cardinals Start 2018 Season The Right Way Beat North Lamar 27-14

There are some questions about the 2018 Pottsboro Cardinals, a lot of new faces and the overall lack of experience is probably the biggest question.  On Friday night no prob, the Cardinals jumped out to a 20-0 lead and defeated North Lamar 27-14.  One of the new faces is Sophomore QB Braden Plyler, he completed 10 of 12 passes and threw 3 TD’s in the first half.  Plyler left the game late in the 2nd quarter with an apparent knee injury.  According to Coach Matt Poe he will be evaluated and his availability for this Friday’s game is still unknown.

Playler looked great but he got a lot of help from his receiver corp, Zach Tally made a highlight grab for the first touchdown and Jacob Jeffers made a really nice diving catch in the endzone that put Pottsboro up 13-0 in the first quarter.  Plyler later connected with Jackson Lipscomb to make it 20-0 early in the second quarter.

The Panthers added a touchdown just before half on a Cameron Clark 14 yard run and Koby Emyabbi ran down the sidelines to make it 20-14 with 8:05 to go in the third quarter.  Pottsboro’s defense came up with two 4th down stops after that and the offense got a 2 yard TD run by Senior Will Cates to put the game away.

Overall a good performance on the road against a team in 4A-D1.  The Cardinals new look defense was more aggressive and totaled 7 tackles behind the line of scrimmage plus 2 sacks.  Pottsboro totaled 314 total yards with 185 on the ground and 129 through the air.  North Lamar was only 2 of 9 passing for 14 yards had 177 combined rushing and passing yards for the game.

Pottsboro will welcome Gunter for the home opener this Friday at Jim Henderson Memorial Stadium, kickoff 7:30 listen to the pregame starting at 7 pm on Mix 96.1.
